The Nature Conservancy is in the process of installing two Motus Wildlife Tracking Towers. Our main objective is to just fill in the void of towers here in the Great Plains. As such we hope to be a valuable addition to those researches out there doing tagging of shorebirds. We are also interested in finding out the turnover rates of those shorebirds that are tagged. The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks & Tourism hopes to place tags on Wood Ducks and Mourning Doves. Some time in the future I would like to work with a local college to develop a long term project on any species they choose.
Its going to nice to start having more Motus towers in the Great Plains. We had a researcher from Texas Tech place one here at Salt Plains in Oklahoma. She also placed one in New Mexico, and Texas panhandle. We are hoping to be able to keep the tower up and take over maintenance once her study finishes.
